Exfoliate, Hydrate and Moisturize this winter season!
Oily or dry, do you still feel like you need a little more to hydrate and moisturize your skin during the winter? The colder weather seems to be just around the corner and here are a few ways to really keep your skin glowing and feeling great!
The first step is use a Clarisonic brush to thoroughly cleanse your skin. The Clarisonic gets your skin 6 times cleaner than just using your hands or a washcloth and allows for 60% better penetration of your medications and products. skinfo® carries two of the Clarisonic models: Mia ($125) and Mia2 ($150).
The next step is to exfoliate. There are a couple different options depending on your skin and your preference. There are chemical exfoliants that can be used 1-2 times per week or up to 7 days per week for a deeper effect. Glytone's Mini Gel Peel ($60 for 2oz) is perfect for removing dead skin on the surface and giving your skin a great, healthy glow! It also allows for better penetration of your products as the dead skin is no longer blocking your pores. This is considered an at-home gentle chemical peel, containing 10.8% Glycolic acid. Retinol is a stronger option if you are looking for a deeper exfoliation and help with fine lines and wrinkles. skinfo's Vital Tea Regenerate comes in 3 different strengths and contains green tea extract which is great for winter use. This type of exfoliant can be used 3-7 times per week.
After exfoliation is where the hydration comes in. Hyaluronic acid is an excellent ingredient to incorporate into any regimen. Hyaluronic acid is naturally found in the skin, and binds to the water molecules in the skin to cause firmness and hydration. Unfortunately, over time we lose that ability, so using hyaluronic acid in our products is the best thing! My favorite product that contains this ingredient is, Skinceutical’s Hydrating B5 Mask ($57 for 2.5 oz). This mask is fantastic! You can leave it on for 15-30 minutes, or even leave it on overnight for best results.
Following this wonderful mask, if you decide to rinse it off, moisturizing is the final step. For those who are dry, and looking for something, try SkinMedica’s Dermal Repair Cream ($120 for 1.7 oz). This amazing night cream, contains Vitamin C to brighten and repair, along with Vitamin E and Hyaluronic Acid for hydration. For those who are on the oily side, try gloTherapeutic’s Oil Free Moisturizer ($43 for 1.7 oz). It contains algae to help balance the skin, along with a little Vitamin E to hydrate. This fresh scent, and smooth consistency is a must for anyone with oily skin!
