Is Molly Simms gorgeous or what!?! I was recently flipping through US Weekly* and came upon this picture. It got me thinking how great it would be to show our patients all the different treatments and products they can use to look as glamorous as their favorite Hollywood beauty, without using Photoshop.
1. Dark pigmentation around the eyelid is a fairly common concern among women. Neocutis LUMIÈRE RICHE ($100) is the gold standard when it comes to an eye balm. This luxurious balm contains PSP® growth factor, which stimulates new collagen production. LUMIÈRE RICHE not only decreases puffiness, it also safely lightens dark pigmentation of the eye lid!
2. There are many ways to change your look and changing your eyebrows can make all the difference! Properly shaped and colored eyebrows can dramatically change your facial appearance! At
skinfo®, we offer
eyebrow shaping, waxing and tinting. We also recommend using skinfo® Wonderbrow ($18) to create the perfect eyebrow in the comfort of your own home.
3. Neurotoxin, such as BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport®, and Xeomin® are all offered at Advanced Dermatology. BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport®, and Xeomin® differ only in the proteins that augment the active ingredient present in all of the brands, botulinum toxin. These neurotoxins work to relax our muscles, in return make us look less worried, more approachable, and youthful.
Not ready to jump on the BOTOX® band wagon? An alternative to Neurotoxin is
Revision® Revox II ($86). This serum incorporates clinical levels of five different peptides to firm the skin, relax the muscles and increase collagen synthesis. Recommended for all skin types, Revox II is wonderful for those who wish to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
4. A trip to the hair salon always makes me happy! I love dying my hair and trying different looks, such as highlights. But, as you know, chemicals and bleach can take a toll over the years, damaging hair. To keep my hair healthy, I use
Viviscal Hair and Scalp Serum ($30). This clinically tested serum is 99% derived from natural sources (PLUS) that condition the scalp (DOUBLE PLUS!), and improve the volume and thickness of the hair (TRIPLE PLUS!). I use the serum in conjunction with the Viviscal Professional tablets ($60), taking one tablet twice daily. These tablets are 100% drug and gluten-free. Containing Vitamin C and Apple Extract, these are great for improving hair growth and density. Lastly, Viviscal Professional tablets contain Biotin, which we all know is great for the hair, nails, and skin!
5. Why so red? Broken blood vessels can occur as a result of having
rosacea,
sun damage, or in some cases, genetics, but
Photorejuvenation (PDL) treatments can be very helpful in diminishing their appearance. In addition to these treatments, patients with should moisturize with
skinfo® Vital Tea Ultra Cream ($82). This hyaluronic acid based cream is rich in green tea polyphenols, which constrict blood vessels and reduce the redness that is associated with rosacea.
6. Dark circles and pigment under the eyes can be effectively treated with injectable filler. We use four different brands of hyaluronic acid (
Restylane®, Perlane®, Juvéderm® & Belotero®) at Advanced Dermatology. The brand used is dependent upon each patient's specific needs. To learn which filler is right for you, please call 847-282-4047 or
contact us to make an
appointment with one of our
cosmetic coordinators.
Afraid of needles? First, let me start by saying that I am a HUGE baby when it comes to needles and pain, but I have been treated with both
BOTOX® and
Restylane® multiple times without a single tear! However, if you just cannot move past the idea of injections,
SkinMedica® carries
TNS Eye Repair® ($98). Containing, NouriCel-MD®, peptides, high concentrations of Vitamins A, C & E and Hyaluronic Acid, SkinMedica® TNS Eye Repair® stimulates collagen production, diminishing the appearance of dark circles,
wrinkles, and fine lines under the eyes. After introducing this into you skincare regimen, you will look like a morning person! Finally, say ‘good morning’ to the world without looking stressed or tired!
7. I “mustache” you a question! As we approach our thirties, my friends and I have started to notice some changes in our skin. Recently, knowing that I worked for Advanced Dermatology and skinfo®, a friend asked me what she could do for discoloration above her lip. In her case, the
pigmentation she was describing was
melasma. I cringed a bit, knowing that
melasma is difficult to completely treat and it is not uncommon for it to reappear months or years later (see #11 for more on melasma). Her Advanced Dermatology Provider suggested that she try
Fraxel® treatments in conjunction with
SkinMedica® Lytera ($125). In addition to this, the
provider also stressed the importance of a
sunscreen that was high in Zinc Oxide, such as
EltaMD UV Pure Broad Spectrum SPF 47 ($23). My friend tells me that she is very satisfied with the results and has seen great improvement in that particular area.
8. Cover that baby up! Whether you have a beauty mark or you are not ready to embrace or a new pimple (or as I like to call them, "little friends"),
gloMinerals Camoflage Concealer ($25) will be your savior! It is available in beige, golden, golden honey or natural. Tired of applying cover up EVERY day? The
Qswitched laser at Advanced Dermatology can be used to eliminate beauty marks that you are self-conscious about. The Qswitched laser can also be used to rid your skin of unwanted brown spots,
sun freckles, or even
tattoos that seemed like a good idea at the time.
9. Sadly, acne can often be socially debilitating and create depressive behavior within individuals who are under its grasp. Luckily, the
providers at Advanced Dermatology have multiple resources to battle this concern. While there are many treatments I could talk about, treatment of acne should be discussed on an individual bases with your provider. I personally, achieved clear skin with
SilkPeel™ treatments, as well as, using
skinfo® Clear Skin 5% ($14) and my
Clarisonic® Mia 2 ($149) daily.
10. Molly Simms has admitted to having Thermage® (see picture above) near the jowls. Thermage® is an AMAZING treatment that uses light and radio frequency energy to activate new collagen production and tighten existing collagen over time. Yes, the jowls are a common area of concern, but women and men more commonly are unhappy with the neck and décolleté. For this, I am excited to say, Advanced Dermatology has a new procedure called
Ultherapy®! Ultherapy® uses the power of ultrasound to stimulate collagen re-growth within the brow, chin, neck and chest.
Want products to compliment these innovative treatments? Epionce® Intense Defense Serum ($136) is one among many products belonging to the
Epionce® skincare line, new to skinfo® . Clinically proven to reduce fine lines for all skin types, Intense Defense Serum stimulates skin by infusing bontanical sources of Vitamins A, B, C, D and E. Now that you have the wrinkles under control, pair Epionce® Intense Defense Serum with
Revision® NECTIFIRM™ ($68). Winning multiple awards, NECTIFIRM™ ($68) rejuvenates the fragile skin on the neck and decolletage by firming slackened skin, reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles, smoothing roughness and increasing moisture levels.
11. Treating Melasma can be a tedious task! Melasma is a medical condition thought to be caused by a combination of hormones and UV light. It commonly occurs during pregnancy or after starting oral contraceptives, but it can also occur if excessive hormones are present. There are many products on the market but
skinfo® Bright ($63) has to be my favorite. This non-Hydroquinone treatment for pigmentation works by inhibiting the production of melanin while brightening your complexion. Should you need more aggressive treatment, one of Advanced Dermatology providers may prescribe the you the Hydroquinone version of this, skinfo® Bright RX** ($104).
