Managing Melasma During the Summer

Melasma, also known as the "mask of pregnancy" is often worsened during the summer months due to increased sun exposure.

Advanced Dermatology and skinfo® have treatments and a variety of products to help reduce pigmentation and to protect the skin from more pigment changes. Consult Advanced Dermatology and skinfo® to design a well-suited program for managing your melasma. An example of an at home skin care regimen for melasma: cleanse the skin twice daily with skinfo® Essential Cleanser. In the morning, after cleansing, apply SkinCeuticals Phloretin CF to protect from further sun/environmental induced damage. Follow with SkinCeuticals Phyto Corrective Gel, a plant based skin lightener that utilizes the combined powers of kojic acid, arbutin, and the extracts of thyme and cucumber to lighten and prohibit melanin production. Finish with a sun block of SPF 30 or higher such as skinfo® Vital Tea Protect SPF 50+ to protect the skin while it is being treated. In the evening follow cleansing with an application of skinfo Vital Tea Regenerate Serum 5x to exfoliate and rejuvenate the pigmented skin cells. For advanced results incorporate a series of 3-6 BetaPeels, having one treatment every 2 weeks. Please note that we do have other products available in the store that can be used for the treatment of melasma and other pigmentation concerns as well as prescriptions and other treatment options that are available through your provider at Advanced Dermatology.
